Stoppard, Miriam The Breast Book Dorling Kindersley 1996 0-7513-0259-7 / 9780751302592 Hardcover Hardback with dustjacket - 1996 - good condition - ladylisabooks websiteThis fine book by an expert on women's health (Menopause, DK, 1994) compares favorably with Dr. Susan Love's seminal work on the same topic, Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book (LJ 6/1/95. 2d ed.), and covers much of the same ground. A comprehensive guide to breast health and care, it contains advice and information on breast anatomy, self-examination, breast feeding, the breast as a sexual organ, cosmetic surgery, developmental changes in the breast? both benign and threatening? and diseases of the breast and their treatment. Stoppard is particularly thorough regarding the latter topic, comprehensively discussing the early discovery and treatment of breast cancer. Her explanations of the various options available, based on the latest research, are presented in simple language accompanied by the kind of superb illustrations for which DK is famous. One small flaw, however: women over the age of 45 or 50 have breasts, too, but you'd never guess that from the photos of all the young lovelies presented here. That caveat aside, this book should be in every library along with Love's and other authors' works. Price:

Stoppard, Miriam (Editor) Woman's Body Dorling Kindersley 1995 0-7513-0128-0 / 9780751301281 Hardcover Hardback with D/J in very good condition. From Library JournalThis profusely illustrated book provides good, current information about the human female. Her development, anatomy, physiology, mental health, socialroles, and sexuality are examined by a group of experts led by contributing editor Stoppard. Diet, exercise, healthcare, contraception, pregnancy, and infertility are also covered. Unfortunately, the information presented here is less comprehensive and less objective than that in The New Our BodiesOurselves (LJ 2/1/93). There is, for example, little discussion of the controversy associated with hormone replacement therapy. This book also lacksthe bibliography and referral sources that appear in the other volume, butthe beautiful color photographs, charts, and graphs make the anatomical andphysiological concepts and medical procedures very easy to understand. Theinsets comparing women with men and animals and the historical notes provide interesting sidelights, too. Highly recommended for all collections as asupplement to The New Our Bodies Ourselves.Barbara M. Bibel. Price:
